How the heck did it get so dark so quickly?!

Daylight savings officially ended on Sunday at 2 a.m., which means things start to turn darker as the days get shorter. I can already feel the effects. Despite gaining an hour of sleep, I seem even more tired than usual. And to top it off, sunset is at 4:47 tonight.

Come back, sun!!!

I know that I’ve been working hard the last month to get my life together so I could quit my job and start my own financial empowerment business. I can definitely use a little energy boost. And if you’re like me, the cold, darkening month of November means I want to do nothing more than stay in the bed under my toasty comforter.

The only way to fix that is 6 months worth of caffeine :)

Wake up! Enter to win 6 Months of Fair Trade Coffee from One World Coffees

A few weeks ago, I talked about how life is too short for crap – especially crappy coffee. In honor of the end of Daylight Savings and to help you all enjoy only the best in life, I’ve partnered with my college buddy Derek – founder of One World Coffees to giveaway 6 months of some of the most delicious fair trade coffee on the market.

When you sign up for One World Coffees, they’ll ship you fresh-roasted coffee from a farmer in a different part of the world once a month. One World Coffees sources their beans directly from farmers, which means fresher coffee. They are slow-roasted and shopped on the same day – a win-win for coffee drinkers and farmers alike.

Derek let me try a sample of Octoberfest – a complex, acidic and super smooth blend. Needless to say, it was the freshest Cup o’ Joe I’ve had in a long, long time :)

Enter below for your chance to win 6 months of super fresh coffee and a sweet One Worlds Coffee mason jar and travel mug. The giveaway will run for two weeks and the more ways you enter, the higher your odds of winning! Even if you don’t win, you can sign up to get a free sample of One World Coffees on their website.

Review and Giveaway: Paleo Goodies from Steve’s PaleoGoods (US)

May 09, 2013 By: Kathleen Category: Yummy Stuff

stevespaleogoods Beautiful GiveawaysThe other day, I rode my bike home from work, when I really should have ridden it to the grocery store, since I had exactly no food in my house, except for one lemon and one onion. I was cranky hungry and not interested in going to the store. Then, I saw it. It was like a mirage in the desert. A huge box filled with Paleo goodies from Steve’s PaleoGoods.

Now, I know I should still have gone to the grocery store, but instead, I sampled. Hey, it’s my job to review these things and give my honest opinion, right?

Let’s talk about Paleo for a second. It gets a bad rap because it tends to attract zealots. But basically, it’s a grain-free way of living. So, while I don’t exactly like their dogma, I know I can trust a brand that has the word “paleo” in it. Simply because that means it passed muster with the “caveperson” crowd and doesn’t have anything gross or chemical in it.

I was sent so many different things. Jerky, PaleoStix (one with spinach flavor!), dried fruit, a cereal-type product called “PaleoKrunch” which I haven’t tried yet, but it looks amazing.

The first thing I tried was the buffalo chicken jerky. I’ll be honest: it looked a lot like something you give a dog. I suspect dogs would go nuts for it, actually. But it tasted amazing. Seriously wonderful.

The beauty of these goodies is that you do not need to eat like a caveperson to enjoy them. AND they give a portion of their proceeds to this program for underprivileged youth, so they can go to Crossfit for free. They’re a really cool organization, one worth supporting. Healthy treats for you, healthy kids in general? What’s not to like?

Note: While this giveaway is for the continental US, Steve’s PaleoGoods not only ships to Canada, but offers a 10% discount to Canadian shoppers to offset shipping costs!

US and Canada: Tropical Traditions

I love coconut oil. I use to to saute vegetables. It has a super high smoke point, so I can get a good crust on a fried piece of chicken. It smells heavenly, but does not taste coconutty in the slightest.

Tropical Traditions has partnered with BeatuifulGiveaways to give away an entire quart of coconut oil!

Seriously, this is an amazing offer.

Have you ever used coconut oil?

I know people who use it for their hair, for their skin, to massage, to make magic shell (just melt chocolate chips with coconut oil — then pour it onto ice cream! wham!). There are so, so many uses for it.

Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil - 32 oz.Win 1 quart of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil!

Tropical Traditions is America’s source for coconut oil. Their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is hand crafted in small batches by family producers, and it is the highest quality coconut oil they offer. You can read more about how virgin coconut oil is different from other coconut oils on their website: What is Virgin Coconut Oil?

You can also watch the video they produced about Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil:

Tropical Traditions also carries other varieties of affordable high quality coconut oil. Visit their website to check on current sales, to learn about the many uses of coconut oil, and to read about all the advantages of buying coconut oil online. Since the FDA does not want us to discuss the health benefits of coconut oil on a page where it is being sold or given away, here is the best website to read about the health benefits of coconut oil.

US: Choffy Giveaway ($46 value)

February 05, 2013 By: Kathleen Category: Yummy Stuff

This is a cool idea. Choffy is cacao beans, brewed like coffee.

If you like black coffee, then you’ll like it straight. It’s bitter and delightful. I know most people don’t like black coffee, and that’s okay, we can still be friends. I tried it with cream and sugar just for you. And it tastes delicious — like hot chocolate, but thiner, because it’s brewed like coffee. So, think of it like “essence of hot chocolate” and that way, you can feel good about drinking it every day.

There are antioxidants in Choffy — which means that it helps detoxify. I’m no expert, but that sounds like a good thing! And also, there’s not much in the way of caffeine, but it has a different, more gentle, stimulant called Theobromine. It improves circulation rather than constricting blood vessels.

It can be brewed like regular coffee, in your coffee pot. But, just like regular coffee, it’s more delicious when brewed in a French Press. So, in a strong act of generosity, they are giving away a French Press that doubles as a commuter mug, plus three varieties of Choffy!

I’ll be honest, I can’t really tell a difference between the varieties of choffy. Perhaps I don’t yet have a refined enough palate. But each variety has been wonderful.

Maybe, if you win, you can do a side-by-side-by-side taste test. Then let me know which one you liked best!
