I love organization.
I love keeping lists.
I love journaling.
I love (okay I tolerate) tracking my food for my healthy lifestyle.
I love calendars.
But what makes all of that more enjoyable?
A lovely, pretty, colorful book to jot it all down in.
And that’s where May Designs comes into play.
Where did May Designs come from? The mind of designer Mica May!
The May Books brand was born from designer Mica May, a self-proclaimed font freak and a gal a little crazy about Pantone colors. About a year after college, she launched a boutique graphic design firm (and of course, with that came web design). She was thrilled with company’s success and never meant to venture outside the world of logos again…
But what about the notebooks?
The idea for her stylish notebooks came about almost by accident when clients of her design firm began taking notice of the signature notebooks that she brought along to all of her meetings. Over dinner one night, Mica mentioned to her husband that she needed to come up with some “notebook pricing” because a few clients wanted books in addition to their logos. He proclaimed, “People want to buy your notebooks!? Babe, this is your best idea yet!” and within a few more hours, the May Books domain name/logo/and ideal client lists were created.
Literally overnight this company and idea was born. Genius if you ask me.
The covers of May Books are canvas (resilient, durable and water resistant) , while each book is bound together by the old-school sewing machine!
Not only is the thread fabulous for the environment, but the book becomes utterly indestructible. No pages ripping out, covers falling off… Believe us, we have tested notebooks.
Oh boy do I need durable. I am known to destroy a calendar Day One.
Mica even makes customizing your book a cinch. Each book is 5×8 with a custom cover and 80 pages inside. There are just four steps for you to complete your own notebook (value $20 plus s/h).
Step One: Choose Your Pattern (Kids, Chevron, Floral, Sorority, School Spirit, Etc)
Step Two: Customize It By Adding A Monogram Or Name
Step Three: Choose Your Inside Pages (Calendar, Dots, Lines, Etc)
Step Four: Preview And Checkout
As you try out different combinations an example emerges to the left of your screen so you can see exactly what you are getting.
Think you could handle that? I did.
Here are the two May Books that I designed: one with Calorie/Exercise Journal and one with Weekly Agenda.
I chose the “bike ride mint” cover…
I chose the “name plate” with a D (my first name initial) in “vintage initial” and love the combo.
For the inside I chose the calorie/exercise journal, which for me would translate to Weight Watchers Points and Exercise Journal. It has so much room to jot down all my food and is much cuter than my current WW tracker.
I love the little water bottles at the top to make sure I drink enough water in my day. I think this setup (with a “reflections” page in the back of the book) is a great logical way to calculate either your calories, food intake or Weight Watchers Points!!
I love a good calendar. Normally I do everything on my phone through my Google Calendar, but after accidentally deleting my entire calendar one night (OUCH!!) I now back up all calendars on paper. Safety first folks. I juggle leading Weight Watchers meetings, training for a marathon/triathlon and blog that I need a calendar to make it all work.
May Designs allows me to look at the week as a whole in one place.
I chose “thin chevron ocean” with an “octagon” background shape and my initials DHK in “ivy” – cute right?
Inside as I said I picked the “weekly agenda” option, which lays out my whole week right in front of me.
So organized, right?
And both of these books are super durable and flexible. They have lasted well over a week in the abyss of my monstrous pocketbook WITHOUT ripping at all.
Oh and in case the notebooks weren’t cool enough Mica offers the same services for notecards as well.
But, back to the notebooks.
Would you like to win your own?
Of course you do.
